A Review of 'Richard' (Ben Myers) by Justin Ehrlich

Richard

'No one wants to probe too deeply when death is involved lest they unearth something rotten.' Richard (Ben Myers)

Don't believe everything you read. Myers takes a scalpel to Richey Edwards and seemlessly splices reflections on the rise of the Manics with a fictionalised account of his last days. The subject matter evokes morbidity but the story is laced and elevated with humour, not least a dark humour underlying Richey's quarrels with an over-assertive inner critic. It reads very smoothly asking little of the reader carrying them effortlessly from start to finish.

Due for Paperback release by Picador on 14/10/11
